Our history

In 2012 in Rio, the idea of Sulitest was born during the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development, and it was then the beginning of the testing phase in correlation with the commitments of the HESI (Higher Education Sustainability Initiative) signatories.

In 2013, universities were the first users of the international Sulitest tool on the trial version. It was also at this time that regional commissions were created and produced their first sets of local questions. Based on the trial version, a new platform was born at the United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA, May 2016). Sulitest was recognized as one of the first initiatives presented at the UN Partnerships for Sustainable Development Goals; and in 2017, recognized as a contributor to the revision of the UN 2030 Agenda at the High Level Political Forum (HLPF).

Over the past four years, the majority of universities, companies and even political parties have begun to declare their commitment to the planet and have, at least in their communication, decided to become leaders in sustainable development. While everyone can welcome this movement, we all agree that beyond the grand intentions and some actions, it is imperative that these organizations can concretely demonstrate their commitment and measure their impact.

This is why Sulitest has decided to strengthen its impact by setting the standard for universities and organizations. In 2023, Sulitest launched the first online certificate assessing sustainability knowledge that is accessible and easy to implement, reliable and globally comparable!

Our contribution to the 2030 Agenda

On January 1, 2016, the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations' 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development were set.

These goals call on nations, organizations and citizens around the world to take action to end poverty, fight inequality and injustice, or address climate change by ensuring that no one is left behind.

Simple to use, adaptable and deployed globally, the tools developed by Sulitest help organizations and individuals contribute to the SDGs.

The United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development (held in Rio de Janeiro - Brazil - in 2012) recognized Sustainable Development as a framework for action and cooperation. Article 47 of the final agreement signed by 193 member states emphasizes the importance of "evaluation and knowledge sharing."

At the Rio+20 conference, the signatories of the Higher Education Sustainability Initiative (HESI) committed to "report regularly on progress and challenges".

The World Conference on Education for Sustainable Development, held in Aichi Nagoya - Japan - in 2014, encouraged governments of UNESCO Member States to work more intensively to "assess the extent to which education policies and curricula achieve the goals of Education for Sustainable Development." According to the WESD, stakeholders are committed to supporting the Global Action Programme on ESD.
